A top Los Zeta cartel associate in Texas who is serving a 20-year sentence for money laundering will now serve an additional five years in prison for trying to bribe a judge in Texas.
Francisco “Pancho” Colorado went before a federal judge in Austin where he got the additional prison term in connection with his 2014 attempt to bribe a judge with $1.2 million in exchange for a lighter sentence, court records obtained by Breitbart Texas reveal.
Colorado, his son Francisco “Panchito” Colorado Jr., and business partner Ramos Segura Flores all took part in the bribe and pleaded guilty in March 2014. Colorado Jr and Segura were sentenced last summer to a year and a half in prison.
The sentence that Colorado was trying to lessen dealt with his business of buying and selling racehorses with moneys from the feared Los Zetas cartel. The buying and selling of the horses helped launder some of the proceeds.
“A fair and impartial criminal justice system is one of the cornerstones of our democracy and that is not for sale. The FBI will continue to fiercely protect against criminals who think they can buy their way to unjust freedom,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs in a prepared statement provided to Breitbart Texas.
