Federal agents and local law enforcement along the Texas border arrested a major suspected drug trafficker. The accused kingpin had managed to stay away from convictions for almost a decade — despite years of serious accusations against him.
Authorities arrested Ediel Tejeda on a sealed indictment. He is charged along with his girlfriend Claudia Lopez and several others with two counts of drug conspiracy in connection with the alleged smuggling of several drug loads from the Texas border to northern cities, court records obtained by Breitbart Texas reveal.
Tejeda, Lopez and another man remain in federal custody without bond.
While drug trafficking offenses along the Texas border have become commonplace and rarely make headlines, Tejeda has a long history of arrests with cases that appear to have magically gone away.
According to The Monitor newspaper, in 2002 Tejeda was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly hitting a man with a car, however the case went dormant and nothing has been filed in it since 2007.
In 2006, Tejeda was once again in custody for beating a man and ordering him be taken to Mexico to make him “disappear” — a grand jury indicted him but the case lays dormant.
In 2012, Tejeda was sentenced to a 10-year probation term for hitting and shooting at a man’s legs in the border city of Pharr.
Most recently Tejeda was convicted in 2013 in the Beaumont, Texas federal courthouse for drug conspiracy, but based on the federal accusations, as soon as he was released he appears to have gone right back to drug smuggling.
Tejeda’s uncle, Daniel “El Boss” Bazan is currently serving a 30 year sentence for running a massive drug smuggling operation out of a Starr County ranch that moved tons of marijuana and cocaine to Beaumont, Texas.
