A Dallas County, Texas Assistant District Attorney has been arrested for alleged drunk driving. A sworn statement by officers said the prosecutor called the officers racist and members of the Ku Klux Klan. He is also accused of calling a supervising black officer an “Uncle Tom,” according to reports on Fox4News and WFAA8 in Dallas.
The prosecutor allegedly told the officers that they were idiots and said “You arrested the wrong person. I’m going to make sure you don’t have a job on Monday.”
According to the officers, the 28-year-old prosecutor was speeding, weaving, and tailgating another car around 2:45 a.m. in South Dallas on Highway 67. He allegedly nearly side-swiped another car.
Officers say the prosecutor, Justin Moore, smelled of a strong stench of alcohol, and had a hard time pulling out his driver’s license.
Moore was arrested on Sunday and is out on bond. The officers have a police car video of the incident.
Moore’s boss, newly sworn-in District Attorney Susan Hawk, told the media that Moore has been placed on unpaid leave. Comments to the Fox4News story included that it was good “to see that the DA’s office believes in the presumption of innocence.”
Moore is a graduate of SMU law school and created The Moore Foundation to fight the stigma of mental illness. The young lawyer just started working as a prosecutor in July of last year. Moore was hired by Craig Watkins, the Dallas District Attorney who was defeated by Susan Hawk in the November elections.
David A. Jones, a former prosecutor and Asst. Attorney General who has served on the Executive Board of the Houston Branch of the NAACP, told Breitbart Texas “Cops tend to favor assistant district attorneys so I think they have some credibility with their affidavit regarding his conduct. That said, it is obvious from this and several other well-publicized instances of racial tensions and violence that the disease of racism has infected the body politic thoroughly.” Jones was the Democratic Party’s nominee for Harris County District Attorney in 1984. He primarily practices criminal defense law.
Prosecutor Justin Moore’s most recent assignment was in the misdemeanor division of the District Attorney’s Office. The largest percentage of cases in this section are driving while intoxicated offenses.
