The new ad from State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer (D-San Antonio) in his quest to succeed State Senator Leticia Van de Putte touts Fischer’s prowess “fighting” with Republicans and ends with a promise that “some fights you can’t back down from — Dan Patrick’s gonna learn that.”
Patrick, a Republican State Senator representing the Houston area, defeated Van de Putte, a Democrat, this November in the race to become Texas’ next Lieutenant Governor. After her electoral defeat, Van de Putte resigned her state senate seat to run for Mayor of San Antonio.
Fischer is viewed as one of the front runners in the special election to replace Van de Putte, which will be held on January 6th. If Fischer wins, he will be part of a State Senate managed by Patrick, who, as Lieutenant Governor, will serve as President of that chamber.
According to a report by the San Antonio Express-News, Fischer has reserved nearly $300,000 of television air time through the election, equating to more than 1,200 spots.
Fischer is no stranger to controversy, and his calling out of Patrick in this ad will likely be viewed as tamer than some of his previous public comments. In one example, Fischer distributed “Lotería” cards at his booth at the Texas Democratic Convention in Dallas back in June, mocking Republican candidate for Governor Greg Abbott as “El Diablito,” or “the little devil,” as Breitbart Texas reported.
Breitbart Texas attempted to reach Fischer and Patrick’s offices for comment, but had not received a reply as of press time.
