Police in Amarillo, Texas arrested two California men who allegedly had 34 pounds of marijuana disguised as Christmas gifts in the trunk of their car when they were pulled over for speeding on a highway Wednesday morning.
Jose Delgado, 33, and Emilio Delgado, 26, both from Oroville, California, were arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, according to the Potter County Sheriff’s Office.
The two men were pulled over around 11:30 am Wednesday morning for speeding on Interstate 40, Lt. Patrick Zamora told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
After authorities smelled marijuana inside the car, they asked the men if they could search the vehicle. When the driver refused, Zamora said authorities called in a K-9 unit, which led police to the trunk of the car.
Inside the truck were three boxes disguises as Christmas presents, with roughly 34 pounds of marijuana inside. The street value of the drugs is about $119,000, according to the PCSO press release.
Both men were booked into the Potter County Detention Center on third-degree felony possession of marijuana, reports the Journal. Authorities believe the men were attempting to transport the marijuana from California to Austin.
