Congressman Gohmert Contrasts White House Security to Border Security

Congressman Louie Gohmert said that if a fence is not good enough for the U.S.-Mexico border, it “should not be good enough for the White House” during a judiciary hearing on Wednesday.

Gohmert questioned the acting Secret Service Director about what he believes was a “breakdown in White House leadership” following a White House security breach.

“There seemed to be, in the past, a feeling of invulnerability of the White House,” the Congressman stated. “That somehow there was bound to be more security there then you see. So it rattles folks when somebody can jump over the fence and get there.”

Gohmert brought up the idea of removing the physical fence around the White House and replacing it with a virtual fence. “If the administration is going to be consistent, it’s now time to remove the fence from around the White House. If it [ a fence] is not good enough for our border, it should not be good enough for the White House.”

He continued, “So, I would ask you to consider that consistency, and also consider the fact that maybe there really is virtue in having a fence that really does slow people down.”
