In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 8, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a call regarding an assault incident in East Hemet, California and found a white male adult who had been shot multiple times. Later identified as Moreno Valley resident Adam Thomas, the man reportedly succumbed to his injuries after arriving at a local hospital.
“During the investigation it was revealed the suspect confronted the victim at a nearby residence,” a Riverside Sheriff’s Department release stated. “An argument ensued between the suspect and victim that resulted in the victim being shot multiple times.”
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating details surrounding the events that occurred Saturday morning. One arrest has been reported. 40-year-old Hemet resident John Demery was arrested and booked into the Southwest Detention Center in connection with the incident.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection released the following statement regarding the incident, “A U.S. Border Patrol Agent assigned to the San Diego Sector Newton-Azrak Station in Murrieta, California, was involved in an off-duty shooting incident at 12:49 a.m. local time that resulted in the death of an individual.”
The statement continued, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Internal Affairs and the U.S. Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector are cooperating with the Riverside Sheriff’s Office, who is leading the investigation. San Diego Sector has suspended the agent’s law enforcement authority and placed the agent on administrative leave pending developments in the investigation.”
National Border Patrol Council San Diego spokesman Gabe Pacheco told Breitbart News that Demery is a veteran agent. “ We are shocked and saddened by the events that took place in the early morning hours of November 3, 2014,” Pacheco said, “our thoughts and prayers go out to Adam Thomas’ friends and family.”
