AUSTIN, Texas — With the release of the most recent campaign finance reports, Attorney General and Republican nominee for Governor Greg Abbott is soaring ahead of his Democrat opponent, State Senator Wendy Davis, not just in the polls, but also in the money race. As reported by Breitbart Texas, Abbott has about $13.3 million cash on hand for the final week before election day, having raised over $45 million during this election cycle. Davis, on the other hand, has barely $500,000 cash on hand remaining in her campaign account.
As she has done throughout this race, Davis has once again artificially inflated her fundraising totals by including the money raised by Battleground Texas and the Texas Victory Committee, both of which are supporting other Democratic candidates in addition to Davis. Regardless, even if Davis were able to commandeer every penny remaining in this other committee accounts, that would still add only about another million dollars to her available cash on hand, leaving Abbott beating her by almost a 9 to 1 margin.
Davis also continues to count substantial in-kind contributions in her fundraising, to the tune of over $2 million of in-kind contributions during the last reporting period. Many of these “contributions” are for services, the true value of which is virtually impossible to verify, and either way, are certainly not financial resources that she can spend. With Abbott entering October with thirty million dollars to spend on ads in Texas’ sprawling and expensive media market, and still having over thirteen million in his pocket ready to spend, Davis will be outmatched in the final crucial week before election day.
Early voting has begun in Texas and continues through Friday, October 31. Election day is November 4.
