DALLAS, Texas — Dallas, Texas nurse Amber Vinson continues to receive care at Emory University Hospital after contracting the deadly Ebola virus while an anonymous patient leaves the hospital, cleared of the disease and heading to an undisclosed location.
The anonymous patient arrived at Emory University Hospital with Ebola virus disease on September 9. A Monday release from the hospital stated, “The patient was treated in the Serious Communicable Disease Unit in Emory University Hospital.”
The Associated Press reports, “The World Health Organization disclosed that a doctor who had been working in an Ebola treatment center in Sierra Leone had been evacuated out of Africa when he tested positive for the disease.”
Sunday, October 19, the patient was “determined to be free of virus and to pose no public health threat” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Georgia Department of Public Health.
According to the hospital release, “The patient has asked to remain anonymous and left the hospital for an undisclosed location. He will make a statement at a later date.”
Emory cared for and in August discharged two patients that had battled Ebola.
Texas nurse Vinson was transferred from Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital to Emory after contracting the disease as she treated Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan. Duncan died October 8.
Vinson was transferred to Emory on October 15. Emory included in their statement on the released patient, “A fourth patient, who arrived on Oct. 15, 2014, is still being treated for Ebola virus disease in Emory’s Serious Communicable Disease Unit.”
Fellow Texas Presbyterian nurse, Nina Pham also continues to battle Ebola after treating Duncan. Pham appeared in good spirits in a video taken just before she was transferred to the National Institute of Health in Washington, D.C., Breitbart Texas reported. After a reportedly exhausting flight, Pham’s health was downgraded from good to fair as she continues to receive care and doctors consider various treatment options. No cure currently exists for the disease.
