HOUSTON, Texas — A third Ebola case has been confirmed in Dallas, Texas. The individual who most recently contracted the virus is the second healthcare worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital to test positive for Ebola. The worker had provided care for Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who brought the deadly virus to the United States.
According to a press release from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the worker developed a fever on Tuesday and was immediately isolated.
Any potential contacts of the new patient are being interviewed by authorities, so that they may be immediately isolated and monitored for signs of the virus. Ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids.
The new Ebola patient, whose identity has not been released, will be joining nurse Nina Pham in isolation at Texas Presbyterian. Pham also contracted Ebola while caring for Duncan.
