Cornyn Demands Answers on Ebola Screening from CBP After Leaked Document

HOUSTON, Texas — Texas Senator John Cornyn demanded answers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), after Breitbart Texas published a leaked internal report revealing that thousands of individuals from Ebola-ridden nations have entered the U.S. with no special screening since January. Cornyn penned a letter to CBP Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske, requesting information about the screening process for passengers coming to the U.S. from countries afflicted by Ebola.

“I am writing to request additional information from [CBP] on actions to improve the screening process for incoming passengers into the United States,” Cornyn’s letter said.

It continued, “Under current protocols, what specific events or indicators would justify an enhanced screening process by CBP? Is CBP currently considering additional plans to increase enhanced screenings of incoming passengers?”

Cornyn further requested that the agency provide “additional data, including country of origin, on how many individuals have received enhanced screening upon arrival to the United States since the Ebola virus outbreak began in West Africa.”

One day prior to Cornyn’s letter Breitbart Texas released a leaked CBP intelligence report, which showed that over 3,500 passengers from Ebola affected nations entered the U.S. since January. The individuals entered into at least 18 heavily populated U.S. cities across the nation.

The federal agent who leaked the report told Breitbart Texas, on the condition of anonymity, “This internal report, coupled with the current Ebola case in Dallas, reveals that our government is not only allowing individuals from Ebola-stricken nations to enter the U.S. with only the basic screening they give to passengers from any foreign nation, but the claims of the issue being properly addressed in the West African countries are untrue.”
