LAREDO, Texas –The Mexican Navy has seized more than 2,400 pounds of cocaine in southern Mexico following a pursuit by boat.
The seizure took place earlier this week near the town of Boca Del Cielo after the Mexican Navy deployed three gunboats an airplane and a helicopter in order to intercept a drug shipment that they had been tipped off about through intelligence sharing with international partners, the Mexican Navy told Breitbart Texas through a prepared statement.
The helicopter spotted the suspicious vessel and alerted the other units which responded to Boca Del Cielo where the ship had run aground and the crew had absconded.
The ship, which had two outboard motors and was called Bahia San Marcos, was loaded with 440 cocaine bricks weighing approximately 2,420 pounds, the statement shows.
Mexican officials were not able to confirm which cartel the drugs belonged to since the southern ports of Mexico are common entry points for cocaine coming from South America.
