HOUSTON, Texas — Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert went on Fox News on Thursday and spoke about President Obama’s handling of immigration and ISIS.
During a recent presser, the president admitted that his administration has “no strategy” for dealing with ISIS. “In order for us to degrade ISIL over the long term, we’re going to have to build a regional strategy,” Obama said. “I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. We don’t have a strategy yet. I think what I’ve seen in some of the news reports suggests that folks are getting a little further ahead of where we’re at than we currently are.”
Reacting to the remarks, Gohmert criticized Obama’s handling of ISIS. The president “has consistently chosen to side with the radical Islamists,” Gohmert told Fox News host Neil Cavuto.
The Texas Congressman continued, “[Obama] has never had a good strategy…he was going to bomb Assad one year ago. if he had done what he said he was going to do, then ISIS would have already taken over all of Syria.”
Cavuto asked Gohmert what action should be taken immediately.
“Bomb the bad guys,” the congressman responded. “That’s ISIS, is the radical Islamists–it has always been. [Obama] saw it a few years ago as being an ‘Arab spring.’ It was radical Islam, and he kept choosing to help radical Islam.”
Gohmert said that many House Republicans “would be willing to have a declaration of war against radical Islam.”
When the conversation shifted to immigration, Gohmert said that he does not believe Obama will act unilaterally to give amnesty to the millions of illegal immigrants currently in the United States. He added, “That’s an illegal move.”
