Gohmert: Execution of US Journalist Gives Glimpse into 'Brutality of Radical Islam'

HOUSTON, Texas — On Thursday Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert responded to the video allegedly showing the decapitation of American journalist James Foley. Gohmert said the footage gave Americans a “glimpse of the brutality of radical Islam.”

“These evil people and their despicable, inhuman atrocities cry out for countries desiring peace to eliminate them from the living,” Gohmert said in a statement provided to Breitbart Texas. “My thoughts and prayers have gone out to Mr. Foley’s family and friends. Their pain, suffering, and anger are unimaginable.”

In the video, a terrorist said into the camera, “Any attempt by you, Obama, to deny Muslims liberty & safety under the Islamic caliphate will result in the bloodshed of your people.” Foley next blamed actions by the U.S. government for his own death.

The congressman also acknowledged the other U.S. journalist who is currently in captivity by ISIS. After Foley was beheaded alive in the video, ISIS brought out another man, who is allegedly journalist Steven Sotloff. The ISIS members vowed to murder Sotloff next if President Obama does not do what they demand.

Gohmert said, “We also pray for the additional journalist in captivity and hope for a safe return. But, as we pray for his safety and the American people, our government should be responding with such dramatic power that tempted terrorists are tempted no more.”

He then criticized Obama’s apparent attitude towards ISIS.

“Terrorism is very real and is growing despite this President’s best efforts to weaken U.S. power and apologize,” Gohmert continued. “Before ISIS commits more heinous crimes against humanity in the name of radical Islam, it must be annihilated for the good of all peace-loving Christians, Jews, moderate Muslims, other religious people, and secularists who simply want to live in peace. Peace will come no other way.”
