HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston police officer died of a gunshot wound on Tuesday afternoon, around 4 p.m. Central Time, Breitbart Texas has learned. The Houston Police Department (HPD) reportedly stated that the officer’s wound was self-inflicted.
A spokeswoman from the HPD told Breitbart Texas that the incident happened at 61 Riesner Street, which is the location of the Old Houston Police headquarters.
“61 Riesner is part of our central patrol station. The officer was shot on the second floor of the parking garage,” the spokeswoman told Breitbart Texas.
“The officer has been pronounced dead,” the spokeswoman continued. “No one has been taken into custody and there are no suspects at this time.”
The Houston Chronicle reported that at a news conference, an HPD spokesperson stated that the gunshot would appeared to be “self inflicted.”
The incident was not caught on camera.
The name of the slain officer has not been released at this time, nor has his official position at the HPD.
