Texas Mom Pizzeria Diaper Incident

Texas Mom Pizzeria Diaper Incident

HOUSTON, Texas — A mother from the Spring, Texas area recently created some buzz online when news broke that she and her children had been kicked out of a local pizzeria for changing her baby’s diaper at a table in the restaurant’s dining room.

Miranda Sowers said she took her infant daughter to the restroom of the Brother’s Pizza Express in Spring, but she was disappointed to discover that they didn’t have changing tables, according to KHOU.

That’s when she decided to change her baby’s diaper on the chair next to her dinner table.

“I thought you know what I’ve got my own changing pad, she’s tiny, she fits right here on the chair,” Sowers said to KHOU.

But the employees on duty at the time claim she wasn’t quick or quiet. Bessa Lala, whose family owns the restaurant, said they were very surprised when it happened.  Bessa’s brother Donny, the manager on duty at the time, said customers were very upset and they received numerous complaints.

The staff at the restaurant brought Sower’s food out in “to go” container and asked them to leave.Sowers told KHOU that she filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Apparently she did not mean to create a big stink [no pun intended], but she feels she has a right to change her baby’s diaper where and when the need should occur.

Texas conservative talk radio show host John Walton, host of Houston based Walton & Johnson Show, disagrees with Sowers.

“I support breastfeeding in public, but this is not the same thing.  Not even close.  There’s no E Coli in breast milk.”

This begs the question: is this a sanitation issue or a violation against a mother’s right to raise her child?
