FALFURRIAS, Texas–Breitbart Texas has learned the U.S. Border Patrol has begun a surge operation in the area surrounding Falfurrias, Texas where large numbers of illegal immigrants have been found dead this year. A significant number of Border Patrol agents and equipment are expected to be visible in Brooks County beginning today.
Members of the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office spoke with Breitbart Texas after witnessing the increased presence on the county’s back roads last night and then speaking with some of the agents who have been brought into the area. The deputies were told the surge was being deployed due to Border Patrol’s expectations of larger numbers of illegal immigrants headed to this already besieged county.
“We were told to expect it to rain bodies around here,” one Border Patrol Agent told the deputies.
A 44 passenger Customs and Border Patrol bus was seen in the area. Breitbart Texas learned the busses, designed to carry a large number if captured immigrants, are being brought up from the Rio Grande Sector headquarters in McAllen, Texas.
“This will save lives,” said Brooks County Deputy Sheriff Daniel Walden who heads up a group of police officers who volunteer their time to work as non-paid deputies to help out the cash strapped county. “The more these smugglers who prey on these people by dropping them off the our county and leaving them to die in our fields can be stopped prior to dropping off their human cargo, the more bodies we will not have to recover in the fields that surround Falfurrias.”
Walden has personally had to recover the last three bodies that have been found in the past couple of weeks. “The death toll in Brooks County now stands at 44 for this year,” Walden said, “and we are just now getting into the heat of the summer.” Temperatures have been reaching well above the hundred degree mark in recent weeks.
Breitbart Texas learned that members of the BORSTAR and BORTAC Northern border teams are being deployed to region. It is not known exactly how many Border Patrol agents will be participating in the surge or exactly how long the surge will last.
Deputy Walden is a volunteer reserve deputy for Brooks County. In his regular job, he serves as Acting Police Chief of the Donna Independent School District Police Department. He has organized the Border Brotherhood of Texas, a group of sworn police officers who are volunteering their time to help the distressed Brooks County Sheriff’s Office.
