MCALLEN, Texas – A human smuggler assaulted a Texas Game Warden Tuesday night while trying to get away in the latest of a series of assault on U.S. authorities by border criminals.

The assault took place shortly after 7:35 p.m. along the banks of the Rio Grande when the warden spotted a coyote–Spanish slang for human smuggler–leading a group of immigrants and tried to stop them, authorities said.

The warden was uninjured when the human smuggler put up a fight in an effort to get away. Eventually, the Texas lawman arrested the smuggler and charged him with assaulting a peace officer, human smuggling, and other charges, jail records obtained by Breitbart Texas show. This case is the latest in an apparent uptick of assaults against authorities. Federal court records show that U.S. Border Patrol agents primarily have been subjected to attacks by human smugglers and illegal aliens.

On June 15, a border patrol agent tried to detain a group of illegal immigrants who had crossed the Rio Grande near Pharr when an illegal alien attacked the agents while trying to flee, punching him several times and trying to take his baton. The alien did manage to take away the agent’s radio, court records obtained by Breitbart Texas show.

In April, an illegal alien from Guatemala rammed an agent’s head into a tree and struck his face with the butt of the agent’s rifle during a struggle near Abram, Texas.

In March, an illegal alien from El Salvador attacked another Border Patrol agent in Brooks County, wrestling his service gun away as the agent fought to recover his weapon. During the struggle, the gun went off but jammed giving the agent a chance to get it back and arrest the illegal alien.

Law enforcement officials have told Breitbart Texas that while Texas peace officers can charge those who resist arrest or assault them very easily, in the case of federal agents officials typically do not prosecute the attacks unless the agent is seriously hurt.
