MCALLEN, Texas–Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX) says not to expect the majority of immigrants now being released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to show up in court as directed. The remarks came as his home district, which covers much of the area affected by the current surge of illegal immigration, is being swarmed by an invasion that sees sometimes hundreds of women and children per night flooding across the border.
Speaking on the Laura Ingraham Radio Show, Cuellar said, “Probably over 40,000 individuals have been released with a piece of paper, a notice to appear. And after you’ve traveled thousands of miles, and you’ve paid thousands of dollars and went through a very difficult situation, you get over here and they tell you to appear at 90 days, I would say that the vast majority are not going to show up at the end of 90 days.”
A former official of the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Gary Mead appears to agree. “They almost never go home,” Mead said in an AP report, “It’s not a process that ultimately ends in easy resolutions or clear-cut resolutions.” Mead previously was responsible for finding and removing immigrants living in this country.
After visiting the border in the Congressman’s district and witnessing first-hand the influx of women and children, Breitbart Texas reached out to Congressman Cuellar’s office for additional comments and clarification on this important issue facing his constituents and all Americans. The Congressman’s office requested a written inquiry which was then submitted. They have not responded to the request for information as of the time of this publication. Breitbart Texas will bring you the Congressman’s response when it is available.
