HOUSTON, Texas– The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) has led the charge in defense of the approximate 17,000 U.S. Border Patrol agents they represent, often with direct truths that challenge the official line from the Administration in Washington, DC. In perhaps their boldest statement to date, they have identified the main cause of our current border crisis as resulting from the “de facto amnesty” the U.S. is granting illegal immigrants.

Breitbart Texas spoke with the NBPC Local 1929 vice president, Stu Harris, on the subject and he stated, “This situation is de facto amnesty. The word has gotten out that we will simply release people into the US if enough of them come at once. The result is that they are doing it.”

“De facto amnesty is here,” he said.

Vice President Harris felt that most of the media coverage of the causes for this latest crisis that has brought waves of tens of thousands of illegal immigrants–many of them children–into the U.S. has been inaccurate. He said, “A lot of the media is saying these people are coming because of economic crisis and violence in their home countries, but these conditions have existed for more than a decade. The only thing that has changed is the talk of immigration reform and amnesty. That is what is bringing these people here now.”

“The reality is that we all saw this coming from more than a year ago. We have been sounding the alarm for at least a year.

“Our guys risk their lives. The people who are turning themselves in now, are people who would have tried to avoid us and would have been running away from us when they crossed illegally.

“Now these same people want to find border patrol agents and turn themselves in. That really says something,” said Vice President Harris.

He added, “They know they can come here and they will get released into the United States. That is all that has changed. That is why they are coming here now in such large numbers.”
