President Barack Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi will travel to Dallas, Texas this summer with the intent to rake in cash for fellow Democrats.
According to a report by the Associated Press (AP), Obama and Pelosi will attend a barbeque dinner at the home of Marc Stanley, chairman of the National Jewish Democratic Council. All funds collected at the event, which is to be held on July 9, will go directly to House Democrats.
An invitation obtained by the AP states that tickets to the dinner start at $10,000, but guests can spend up to $32,400 if they attend as a couple.
Obama has reportedly attended two dozen events benefitting Democrats so far this year. As politicians gear up for the 2014 midterm elections, similar fundraising events are likely to become increasingly common.
The decision to host one such event in Texas may be notable–many on the left are intent on “turning Texas blue.”
As individuals and families flock to the Lone Star State from America’s most liberal cities, some have expressed fear that the push to liberalize Texas will be strengthened. Others have gone so far as to surmise that the importation of transplants’ liberal values will eventually turn Texas into an over-regulated, over-priced, anti-business stronghold.
While Obama’s July trip to Texas may embolden such fears, it is unlikely that exodus from blue states will shift Texas’ political landscape.
Breitbart Texas previously reported that most Lone Star State transplants appear to be conservatives seeking refuge. A joint study conducted by the University of Texas and Texas Tribune confirmed that the majority of Texas’ fresh migrants from California are self-proclaimed conservatives seeking refuge.
Chuck DeVore, Vice President of Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation told Breitbart Texas in a related interview, “I can certainly appreciate the fear of native Texans that transplants from liberal cities are going to turn Texas blue. But the data doesn’t support this fear…Most liberals from California would rather die than come here.”
