26-year-old Kelly Lynn Thompson, a former Texas high school teacher, was arrested this week for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Thompson, a teacher at Cypress Lakes High School in Houston, is accused of having sexual contact with the boy in her car as it was parked in front of the student’s home. According to a report by the Daily Mail, Thompson was arrested after a witness called police.
The witness reportedly told police that Thompson claimed to be in love with the boy and that she had brought him to her home, according to the Huffington Post.
Investigators subsequently discovered that Thompson allegedly asked several people to lie to authorities about her apparent relationship with the student, according to the Daily Mail. The report further alleges that after the teacher was questioned by police she sent text messages to her friends, asking them to deny having any knowledge of what had occurred.
The student was reportedly questioned by police, and admitted that he had a sexual relationship with Thompson. He also told them about the event in Thompson’s car in his parent’s driveway.
Thompson ultimately faces charges stemming from the alleged relationship, as well as charges related to tampering with witnesses.
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School district released the following statement regarding the alleged relationship:
“Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is very concerned about the serious nature of the allegations against a former Cy Lakes teacher. Inappropriate behavior or misconduct will not be tolerated by any staff member. The safety of our students is always our highest priority, and we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement.”
Thompson is only the latest in a string of Texas teachers recently accused of having inappropriate relationships with their students. Earlier this month Breitbart Texas reported on 47-year-0ld Mark Lampman. The former teacher at Permian High, shot himself dead on May 7 following allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a student.
Lampman is the fifth teacher to be accused of having sexual relations with a student at Permian High during the last year; the other four suspects were all female teachers.
The Daily Mail reported that a physical education teacher at the high school, Alisha Carrasco Knighten, stepped down from her position just last week after allegations that she had sexual conduct or intercourse with a student.
Earlier this month, another unnamed teacher resigned for alleged sexual contact with a student.
In 2013, Kathryn Maples and April Collins, both employed by Permian High, also resigned over similar accusations. Maples also reportedly sent sexually explicit photos to a student. Both Maples and Collins face up to 20 years in prison, according to the Daily Mail.
