Earlier in April, Breitbart Texas reported on 27-year-old Fidel Salinas, a man accused of illegally attempting to access several Internet servers including government assets. Salinas, who is thought to be affiliated with the notorious online hacking group “Anonymous,” was served with a new indictment on April 29 that includes new hacking charges, according to reports by the Associated Press.
The new indictment reportedly includes 44 charges, 18 of which are related to cyberstalking.
Court documents obtained by Breitbart Texas state that Salinas attempted to access websites belonging to the La Joya School District, Hidalgo County, and The McAllen Monitor newspaper. The newly-served indictment reportedly includes allegations that Salinas also cyberstalked an unidentified woman.
A criminal complaint states that Salinas tried to hack the Hidalgo County’s management page thousands of times on January 5, 2012. The attempts ultimately cost the county $10,000 in repairs to the system.
“During the early morning, Salinas made over 14,000 attempts to log into their website server,” the complaint said. “The intrusion attempts were severe enough to prevent the administrators from accessing their website for at least half a day; subsequently, this prevented employees from managing their own website.”
Investigators confronted Salinas after tracking his IP address. The 27-year-old claimed to have hacked the county site as a “courtesy” after he “saw a flaw.”
Subsequent to confiscating several hard drives from Salinas’ residence, investigators reportedly found chat logs relating to Anonymous. Salinas admitted to posting the following on his Facebook page on January 22, 2012:
“F**k you corrupt officials and politicians. When someone tries to give you advice that your servers aren’t secure and said person doesn’t modify, access, or download ‘restricted’ information. I believe you say thank you instead of being afraid of what you don’t know by getting an invalid warrant, arresting, and wrongfully jacking all his electronics. -We do not forgive, we do not forget, divide by zero we fall, EXPECT US!”
The final quote is a common saying among Anonymous members, according to the complaint.
Alma Garza, Salinas’ attorney, has continued to deny that her client is involved with Anonymous. Breitbart Texas made repeated attempts to connect with Garza by phone; she did not immediately calls.
Salinas reportedly faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge against him.
