A 17-year-old male student brought three loaded firearms and a 12-inch knife to his San Antonio high school on April 28, a police spokesperson confirmed to Breitbart Texas. The teen suspect is a student at Madison High School.
North East Independent School District spokeswoman Aubrey Chancellor told the San Antonio Express-News that weapons and additional magazines were found inside the student’s backpack. The firearms were reportedly an AK-47, a .22 caliber and .45-millimeter pistols. Chancellor said she believes that the student got the weapons from home.
The student had reportedly run away from home prior to the incident. When his parents learned their son was at school, they drove to Madison High and had a meeting with the teen and several school administrators, according to reports.
During that meeting, the student’s parents asked administrators to look inside his backpack; that is when two guns and the knife were found. The third gun was found in a bathroom trash bin, the Express-News reported.
The 17-year-old told police that he planned to make demands over the intercom system, according to the Express-News. Chancellor said that if those demands were not met, the teen planned on committing violent acts.
At this time, it is unknown if the student has a history of violence.
Madison High was placed on lockdown. Local reports state that the lockdown has since been lifted and that all students and staff are safe.
Chancellor told Breitbart Texas that the investigation is ongoing to discover what the teen’s full intentions are. She said that Madison High is currently safe and secure–students are all expected to be back on the campus for normal school tomorrow.
“We are reviewing all legal options at this point,” Chancellor said. “That includes whether or not the parents took all precautions to secure their firearms.”
