TEXAS–52-year-old Sammy Lee Nickerson, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was arrested in Bryan on Thursday. Nickerson was previously convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child and had failed to register as a sex offender. He was also wanted for parole violations relating to burglary crimes.
Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety were able to hunt down and arrest Nickerson using tip information. Nickerson, who was ultimately found in a Bryan apartment complex, was apprehended with relative ease. Up to $5,000 will be awarded to the individual who provided the tip leading to Nickerson’s arrest.
So far this year, Texas law enforcement has been successful at apprehending a large number of most wanted fugitives and individuals convicted of sexual assault of a child.
In February, 31 criminals, including one of Harris County’s Most Wanted Fugitives, were located and arrested during a joint operation between the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. As Breitbart Texas reported, all of the arrested individuals had outstanding arrest warrants for felony family violence.
In 2013, a record number of Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders were arrested by law enforcement officials. This success is in part thanks to a program run and funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division. The program gives cash rewards to individuals who offer tips leading to the arrest of a most wanted fugitive or sex offender.
2014 has already seen the arrest of multiple individuals on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list. Nickerson was the fifth on the list to be apprehended so far this year.
