ROUND ROCK, TX.–On Wednesday the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and United States General Services Administration (GSA) awarded Dell with a contract worth up to $22 billion to provide IT services. According to a statement from Dell, “These contracts will allow Dell to help both government institutions operate more effectively and efficiently through the use of IT and IT services.”
George Newstrom, vice president of Dell Services Federal Group said, “First and foremost we are looking forward to working with these key government customers to leverage our core competencies and help them accomplish their missions more efficiently and effectively. This is an unmistakable indication that Dell remains one of the premier providers of IT services to the U.S. government and we’re looking forward to building on the momentum we’ve created within our business recently.”
Dell will help the DHS “develop, maintain and implement a full-range of IT solutions” through the awarded DHS Eagle II contract. The Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract was also given to Dell, and has a ceiling value of $20 billion after a 10 year performance period.
Dell will help the GSA “save money and operate its IT more effectively by providing service-desk support to the agency.” The technology company will receive $37.1 million by AAC to provide the services through the GSA Technology Operations contract.
The Round Rock, Texas-based Dell was also selected by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to provide a private “cloud” for the agency, which the company will build and install. The cloud, built specifically for the NRC, will help track finances and overall streamline operations. Newstrom said, “We’re focused on helping customers select the right cloud for their unique business needs, including security and compliance. The NRC is a perfect example as it has strict standards and requirements that its systems must support in order to carry out its vital regulatory oversight mission. The Dell cloud solution is built to meet and exceed those requirements.”
The NRC implementation will consist of three stages: building the private cloud, providing management, and creating a public cloud.
To date, Dell has helped 95 percent of federal agencies with IT and technology development.
