In a poll released today by the Texas Tribune, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis trails Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott by eleven points. The margin between Abbott and Davis has nearly doubled since the same poll conducted in October, 2013.
The Texas Tribune poll of 1,200 registered voters reveals that if the 2014 General Election were held today, Abbott would defeat Davis by a margin of 47 to 36 percent. Seventeen percent of voters said they had not yet made up their mind on this race.
The University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll does not appear to be the only place where Davis’ support is waning. Last week, Breitbart Texas reported how the media seems to be losing their affection for the once rocketing Democratic star referring to Davis’ hard right turn on abortion and gun rights.
“The story of the last four months is, Davis loses a couple points, Abbott gains a couple of points,” said Daron Shaw, co-director of the poll and a professor of government at UT-Austin. “He had a pretty good couple of months. She had a pretty bad couple of months, all without many people paying attention.”
Now Texas’ Democratic Party women also seem to be less than thrilled with Davis’ campaign performance. At a gathering this weekend in Austin, Davis was unable to draw 200 people for her keynote address according to a report by the Austin American-Statesman.
During Davis’s speech to the Democratic Women’s convention, she called on Abbott to distance himself from his affiliation with rock star Ted Nugent. Breitbart Texas is still waiting for Davis to distance herself from Battleground Texas after the news that Battleground Texas has been allegedly stealing private information from voter registration forms as revealed last week.
The recent TT/UT polling remains consistent with November 2013 data from Public Policy Polling (PPP) indicating that as voters get to know Senator Davis as a candidate, the more voters dislike her.
After demands from Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst for an investigation, Breitbart Texas has learned the investigation is being referred to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.
Abbott is expected to receive about 90 percent of the votes in next month’s Republican Primary election in a field of four candidates. In contrast, Davis is only expected to receive a little over 85 percent in her Democratic Primary. Davis is being challenged by Ray Madrigal who doesn’t even appear to be running a campaign according to a post by blogger Charles Kuffner. Abbott is actibely competing against Miriam Martinez, Lisa Fritsch and Larry Secede Kilgore for the Texas GOP nod.
