On Saturday morning, the Associated Press broke news that the notorious head of the largest drug cartel in Mexico has been captured by US and Mexican authorities in the resort town of Mazatlan. Details were still sparse, but it appears he was in a hotel, and the US official who reported the news spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity. Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán is arguably the most wanted man in the Western Hemisphere, and heads the Sinaloa Federation, a drug cartel that rakes in billions of dollars every year from the trafficking of marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine into the United States, Europe, and even as far as Australia. Breitbart Texas will post more details on the arrest, as well as analysis about what this could mean for the drug war in Mexico, as details come in.
