Perhaps Doug Clark of the News and Record simply woke up on the wrong side of bed, or maybe he felt like carrying a little water for Kay Hagan but this hit of his on Republican Thom Tillis doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

Writes Clark:

Tillis associates Hagan with White House security breach

Thom Tillis blames President Obama for last week’s White House security lapse and somehow manages to associate Kay Hagan with the incident.

“It’s just another example of failures in this administration. They need to start getting serious about homeland security and national security. They failed on that front, and Kay Hagan has rubber-stamped it every step of the way,” Tillis said in Raleigh today, according to WRAL’s Mark Binker.

Yes, Kay Hagan has rubber-stamped the White House policy of leaving its doors unlocked.

Normally, I don’t comment on the ridiculous attacks coming from both sides in this campaign. It’s as if the candidates long ago ran out of serious issues to talk about.

But this is really absurd.

The Secret Service screwed up. I don’t think the president or Sen. Hagan planned that.

But a click through to Clark’s source shows that, in context, Tillis’ comments weren’t the least bit inappropriate, let alone “absurd”. The recent Secret Service fiasco is absolutely just one more failure of this administration currently in the news, making it fair game for attack – and Tillis was clearly not specifically blaming Hagan for it – by any means.

Tillis was merely pointing out her mostly down-the-line support for what many now view as a failed and still now all but flailing Democrat administration.

“We need to protect the president, whether I disagree with his policies or not. When you can’t do something as basic as making sure that someone (doesn’t walk) into the White House, it’s just another example of a failure. And then you turn around and then really, I guess, gloss over that this is not the first time that it’s happened,” Tillis said. “It’s just another example of failures in this administration. They need to start getting serious about homeland security and national security. They failed on that front, and Kay Hagan has rubber-stamped it every step of the way.”

If Hagan doesn’t want to be linked to this administration, she should consider changing parties. But fortunately for her, she might not have too as long as she has so called journalists like Doug Clark covering for her.
