Finally: Eric Holder To Step Down

Eric Holder, the most corrupt attorney general in our nation’s history, has finally decided to step down after six scandal-ridden years at the Department of Justice.

With the Senate likely to change hands after the midterm elections, the president will want to have the confirmation process for his pick for the next Attorney General (aka “scandal goalie” or “firewall”) over before the Republican Senate convenes in January.

In case you’re wondering about the timing of this.

Holder, who should have resigned in disgrace after the Fast and Furious scandal erupted in the Spring of 2011, soldiered on even after he was held in contempt by congress in the summer of 2012.

His tenure as the nation’s top law enforcement officer will be remembered as one marked by scandal, corruption, hyper-politicization, opposition to 2nd Amendment rights, hostility toward conservatives, and an abysmal batting average in the courts.

Under Holder, the DOJ began treating terrorists as criminal defendants rather than enemy combatants, and purged references to “radical Islam” in FBI training materials.

His first scandal erupted when the DOJ dropped the New Black Panther voter intimidation case in May of 2009, (described by Bartle Bull, a former civil rights lawyer and publisher of the left-wing Village Voice, as “the most blatant form of voter intimidation I’ve ever seen.”)

Under Holder, the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ became hyper-politicized sewer that engaged in politicized hiring practices in the career civil service ranks.

In June 2008, Holder admitted to the American Constitution Society (an organization started as a liberal counterweight to the Federalist Society) that the Justice Department was “going to be looking for people who share our values.”

The Holder Justice Department refused to characterize the Fort Hood attack on November 5, 2009 as an act of terrorism – not one of the post-attack reports issued by the DOJ mentioned Nidal Hasan’s Islamist ideology –  Instead they labeled it as “workplace violence, ” allowing the Obama administration to deny they families of the victims benefits.

In May of 2013, it was discovered that the Justice Department had secretly obtained two months of the telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press (AP).

President and CEO Gary Pruitt has described the DOJ’s actions as a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” into how news organizations gather the news.

The Holder Justice Department also unjustly spied on Fox News reporter, James Rosen.

Throughout his tenure, Holder has consistently opposed efforts to pass voter integrity laws –  which are designed to minimize voter fraud – under the pretense that they disenfranchise nonwhite minorities.

The Holder DOJ was caught colluding with Lois Lerner to prosecute conservative tax exempt groups.

According to new IRS emails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request from Judicial Watch, former head of tax exempt groups at the IRS Lois Lerner was in contact with the Department of Justice in May 2013 about whether tax exempt groups could be criminally prosecuted for “lying” about political activity.

Earlier this month, a Holder Communication Aide was caught trying to collude with Democrats in Congress, when he mistakenly called House Oversight Chairman Darrel Issa’s office for help spinning the IRS scandal.

No one who values impartial justice and the rule of law is going to be sorry to see Eric Holder go. The next attorney general can hardly be worse.

But don’t worry – Obama will try.
