Immigrations Customs Enforcement agents are circulating an email tirade from an unknown agent in response to Department of Homeland Security Sec. Jeh Johnson’s announcement that a border patrol agent was killed while “off duty.”
The email, obtained with its author’s name redacted by Breitbart News, complains that while the agent may have technically been off duty, he was allegedly killed by two illegal immigrants who had been previously deported, making the incident close to home for the tight-knit community of officials who work to secure the border.
Two illegal immigrants from Mexico are accused of killing Vega and wounding his father South Texas fishing trip. Tuesday, Johnson announced “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega, who was killed in South Texas on Sunday evening while off-duty” and said DHS is collaborating with law enforcement officials to investigate the killing.
In response to DHS’s reaction to Vega’s death, a border agent within ICE remarked:
“Killed while “Off-duty”? This is all you have to say to US about the murder of a Border Patrol Agent by previously deported aliens?!?!?! Thanks to the failed immigration policies of this administration something like this occurs and you don’t want to even acknowledge the actual events in your email to the employees of the DHS?Off duty makes it sound like a car accident, a heart attack, maybe something else…….but really????????? Disrespectful at the least and downright shameful in my opinion!”
The e-mail goes further saying the “INA (Immigration and Nationality ACT) exists for a reason…… ADHERE TO IT.” The agent suggests that the military could load up illegal aliens in C-17’s and fly them back to their home countries.
“Half the politicians out there don’t even know what the names of the agencies and what they do when they talk about immigration and securing the border. It’s not ‘border guards’, It’s Border Patrol Agents. Ignorance spawns failure and ignorance runs amuck in Washington, D.C,” the email says.
Border agent Chris Cabrera recently told Fox News that “morale is at an all-time low right now” at ICE, because agents are “not allowed to do the job that they were hired to do.”
