If Barack Obama and John Kerry’s hideous fumbling in the Gaza war – essentially turning the United States into Hamas’ legal representation, in alliance with the terror-enabling state of Qatar against Israel and virtually every reasonably sane Arab government – seems confusing, two crucial points should be borne in mind. One of them is that Obama and Kerry are both feckless and lazy. They want a big foreign-policy win, fast, and they know they’re not going to get it by talking to the blood-splattered monsters of Hamas, so they lean on Israel.
The other point whose importance should not be discounted is that Obama and Kerry dislike Israel, and Obama hates its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu made Obama look like an utter fool after the President made some ignorant comments about Israel’s borders a few years ago. The thin-skinned and arrogant Obama has never forgotten that.
He’s not going to forget Netanyahu dragging him off the golf course and back into school this weekend, either. From the Associated Press:
Following the quick collapse of the cease-fire in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the White House not to force a truce with Palestinian militants on Israel.
Sources familiar with conversations between Netanyahu and senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, say the Israeli leader advised the Obama administration “not to ever second guess me again” on the matter. The officials also said Netanyahu said he should be “trusted” on the issue and about the unwillingness of Hamas to enter into and follow through on cease-fire talks.
The Obama administration on Friday condemned “outrageous” violations of an internationally brokered Gaza cease-fire by Palestinian militants and called the apparent abduction of an Israeli soldier a “barbaric” action.
The strong reaction came as top Israeli officials questioned the effort to forge the truce, accusing the U.S. and the United Nations of being naive in assuming the radical Hamas movement would adhere with its terms. The officials also blamed the Gulf state of Qatar for not forcing the militants to comply.
With the cease-fire in tatters fewer than two hours after it took effect with an attack that killed two Israeli troops and left a third missing, President Barack Obama demanded that those responsible release the soldier.
Which, you’ll notice, Hamas has not done. And Obama hasn’t even cooked up one of his stupid hashtag games for the Israeli soldier yet!
In fact, after some early bragging to their pals in Turkey about bagging an Israeli soldier, Hamas noticed the sane people of the world frowning at them, and began claiming they don’t know nuthin’ about no kidnapping. We’re back to the political wing of Hamas saying it can’t be held responsible for what the kidnapping feathers of the terrorist wing do, ninety minutes into a cease-fire. That ongoing charade makes it more clear than ever that the Palestinian “leadership” has not earned any of the privileges due to a civilized government.
On Saturday morning, the Israeli government decided it’s not interested in playing the “cease-fire” game any longer:
What’s next from the Obama-Kerry clown act? That’s a trick question. The answer is, “nobody much cares.”
