U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl’s hometown of Hailey, Idaho canceled the rally that was planned for later this month to celebrate his release from five years of Taliban/Haqqani captivity. The cancellation comes in the wake of serious allegations made by former platoon mates who say that he was a deserter at best, a traitor at worst.

Heather Dawson, the city administrator of Hailey, Idaho, said town officials called off the June 28 event at the request of organizers because the town “will be unable to safely manage the number of people expected.”
Due to the major national media attention, organizers of the event were expecting a significant number of people to attend – some who wanted to show support and others who wanted to protest against it.
