'Unacceptable!': Michelle Obama Blasts GOP For Trying To Curb Her Unpopular School Lunch Program

In response to First Lady Launching Full Scale Campaign To Combat School Lunch Program Critics:

First Lady Michelle Obama slammed Republicans Tuesday for considering legislation that would allow some school districts to opt out of strict federal mandates, calling the move, “unacceptable” and “playing politics with our kids’ health.”

The House Appropriations Committee announced plans to let cash-strapped schools opt out of the nutrition regulations via waiver, last week – a move supported by the the School Nutrition Association.

Before her meeting at the White House with supporters of her healthy eating initiative, she said, “the last thing we can afford to do right now is play politics with our kids’ health.” She added. “Now is not the time to roll back everything that we have worked for. Our kids deserve so much better than that.”

Recent agriculture Department statistics show that more than a million kids have abandoned the first lady’s school lunch program between 2011 and 2013 — because they felt like they deserved “so much better than that.”
