According to police, a suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing a Portland area Baskin Robbins with a syringe. Police say the suspect held the syringe up to a 19-year-old employee claiming the needle was “full of AIDS.”
Katharine Pepin was just about to close for the night when the suspect entered just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Some guy just walked in and said, ‘This is a robbery. This is a needle full of AIDS’, and then ‘Open the cash drawer’, and so I did,” Pepin explained.
Pepin described the contents of the syringe as looking like a “bloody substance.”
After a search of the area, police were unable to locate the suspect who got away on foot.
Police are on the lookout for a white man in his 20’s, described as 5’9″ tall and skinny with short brown hair and glasses. He was reportedly wearing bright colors at the time of the robbery.
No information was given as to whether police recovered the “infected” needle.
No injuries were reported but that particular Baskin Robbins has adjusted its policy such that no employee will ever be a single scooper again. Employees will work in pairs.
