Venezuela: The Toilet Paper Revolution?

The toilet paper revolution. That’s the assessment of Fusion reporter Mariana Atencio. In the following report she explains just how serious shortages have become in Venezuela.

People are forced to line up at 4 a.m. for a chance to get basic staples (like toilet paper but also flour, milk, etc.). The problem is compounded by the fact that Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in the world, making it a very risky proposition to be out on the streets at 4 a.m. with a pocket full of money.

I’ve written two previous posts with more information about what is going on in Venezuela. This one focuses on the two sides in the conflict, chavista socialists vs. students wanting a better life. The second one covers President Maduro’s actions and how they have contributed to the problems shown in the clip above (price controls, threats of prison for capitalists).
