NASHVILLE – 37-year-old Sarah Moretti was arrested in February 2011 for shoplifting from the Macy’s at the Mall at Green Hills. But the case was closed after a death certificate showed she died in Kentucky of a drug overdose in May of that same year.
The case was re-opened after Moretti was arrested again in March of 2012 for shoplifting from the Dillard’s store at Rivergate Mall….a feat difficult to pull off when dead. What’s more, she was arrested in December 2013, again for shoplifting, after returning to her roots at the Macy’s in Green Hills.
Wednesday, she appeared in a Nashville courtroom to face charges.
Paramedics were called to the courtroom after Moretti cut her wrist in a failed suicide attempt.
Judge Casey E. Moreland, who was presiding over hearing, said a law enforcement officer in courtroom restrained her when it was apparent she was attempting to harm herself. Moretti’s arms were reportedly bleeding from self-inflicted wounds caused by a pen.
She was taken out of the courtroom on a stretcher.
The hearing was postponed until January 24 in the wake of the courtroom incident.
A woman thought to have died a few years ago was in a Nashville courtroom Wednesday to face shoplifting charges.
