ETOWAH COUNTY, AL – An 18-year-old mother reported missing Saturday was later found in the woods and arrested after her 2-year-old son was discovered by a family member outside a home in the Ivalee area. The toddler was alone, holding a suicide note written by the mother.
Katie Renea Halbert, of Attalla, disappeared from the Ivalee community sometime on Saturday, January 11. According to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, she was possibly in an “altered state of mind” and thought to be a possible danger to herself.
After finding the toddler wandering alone with the suicide note, and being unable to locate Halbert, a relative notified 911. Several hours later, the sheriff’s office found an unharmed Halbert in a wooded area.
She was charged with third degree domestic violence / reckless endangerment and booked into the Etowah County Detention Center on a $1000 property bond.
