In a development possibly related to the “polar vortex” that is currently bringing record low temperatures to the Midwest and the Northeast United States, and which in turn is possibly related to global climate change, surfing conditions in the area of Santa Monica, CA were reported to be unusually poor early on Monday morning.
A local surf report indicated “weak waves mainly down in the 1-2′ zone.” In another alarming development, the temperature had reached 70 degrees Fahrenheit by 10:00 a.m., en route to a predicted high temperature of 72 degrees. Winds were calm and skies were clear and blue. Local seismographs recorded several small tremors.
