PHILADELPHIA – Frigid temperatures gave rise to hot tempers Friday night in Philadelphia’s Overbrook Park section when SWAT officers were dispatched to a standoff stemming from a fight over shoveling snow.
According to police, two neighbors got into a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation around 4:30 p.m. Police say neighbors had to wrestle away a box-cutter from one man, who then left the scene and returned with a gun.
Lt. John Walker said, “He comes back out, he has a handgun in his waistband. He shows the neighbor he was fighting the gun. Fortunately the uniform officers arrive on the scene and he runs in his house. At that point, he barricades himself in his house refusing to come out, and we had to activate our SWAT teams,” said Lt. John Walker.
