Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, and Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) announced their retirements today after serving many years in congress.
Matheson’s seat, in the heavily Republican 4th District is seen as an easy pick-up for Republicans.
Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love, a top GOP recruit, came within a few hundred votes of defeating him in 2012. She promptly announced her rematch in early 2013.
Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA), who represents Virginia’s 10th District and served in Congress since 1981, also announced his retirement, today.
His district includes parts of Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Prince William, and Warren Counties — an R+2 suburban district with a high number of federal government employees that Democrats are likely to find friendly territory for a takeover.
Make that two easy pick-ups for Republicans, barring some unforeseen catastrophic misstep that would keep a dispirited base at home.
