Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) applauded his party’s decision Thursday, endorsed by President Barack Obama, to end the filibuster for executive nominees and most judicial nominees, telling MSNBC: “I want the filibuster abolished. Completely.” The new rule passed the Senate by a vote of 52-48.
Apparently Sen. Blumenthal does not appreciate the Founding Fathers’ desire to avoid rampant majoritarian rule. Nor does he understand that complete abolition of the filibuster will allow a future Republican president and Senate to appoint judges and executives at will and to repeal Obamacare easily. He may soon learn.
