An interpreter at the UN accidentally revealed the truth about that organization: that it is obsessed with singling Israel out for alleged human rights abuses, but ignores real abuses in every other part of the world.
UN Watch notes the blunt language of the interpreter’s remarks:
I think when you have… like a total of ten resolutions on Israel and Palestine, there’s gotta be something, c’est un peu trop, non? [It’s a bit much, no?] I mean I know… There’s other really bad shit happening, but no one says anything about the other stuff.
Those who heard her inadvertent commentary laughed–because they know it is true.
Anne Bayefsky’s Human Rights Voices points out that the UN condemned Israel for human rights abuses more than any other country in the world–at a time when Israel was relatively peaceful and the government in neighboring Syria was busy slaughtering tens of thousands of people, possibly using chemical weapons. The UN also condemned the United States as often as it condemned Iran for human rights abuses in 2012.
