In an interview Tuesday with Jake Tapper, Chris Christie offered some advice to President Obama on the proper response to the firestorm over the President’s promise, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan.”
“Don’t lawyer it” Christie said, “People don’t like lawyers.” Christie, who is himself a lawyer and former prosecutor said that when he saw the President’s new explanation earlier that morning his reaction was “He’s lawyering it.”
Christie’s comments are a response to an explanation President Obama offered Monday night. The President attempted to revise and extend his remarks about keeping health insurance plans by adding an “if” clause that was not present in any of the three dozen or more times he had made the promise in public. According to Obama, “What we said was, you could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law passed.”
