Rep Cory Gardner Presses Kathleen Sebelius: 'Why Aren't You In The Exchange?' (Video)

Congressman Cory Gardner (R-CO) executed a beautiful one-two punch at the House ObamaCare hearing, today,  with Kathleen Sebelius.

He began his time by informing Sebelius that his family chose to give up his sweetheart Congressional health care coverage in favor of private insurance back in Colorado so he could be in the same boat as all of his constituents and proceeded to read his “Dear John” letter from his insurance company.

He said, “the White House website says, if you like the health care plan you have, you can keep it. Did I hear wrong?” Sebelius tried to answer by blaming the insurance company, but he interrupted her to ask, “Why aren’t you losing your insurance?…Why aren’t you in the exchange – you’re in charge of this law, correct? Why aren’t you in the exchange?….You’re a part of this law, you’re literally in charge of this law…should you be any different than all the other Americans out there?”

Sebelius answered incorrectly that it is because she is “not eligible for the exchange.”

But Gardner, eyes widening,  corrected her, saying, “I went into the exchange. You can decide to drop the coverage of your employer. You can decide not to choose….”

“That is not true, sir”, Sebelius interrupted.

Andrew Johnson at NRO has a longer clip which includes Gardner hectoring Sebelius about an egregious ObamaCare ad in Colorado that features a college aged dude doing a “keg stand” flanked by two other partiers. It urges young people to sign up for “brosurance”. 

Gardner asked the HHS Secretary if she approves of that kind of advertising, and Sebelius avoided making a judgement call by claiming that she couldn’t see his poster from across the room.

“That’s pretty big font,” Gardner countered. “That’s a pretty big picture of a keg.”

They went back and forth on that for a bit, and then Gardner returned to his original point and smacked her one more time, “you have the ability to opt out, by the way, as a federal employee.”

He concluded by asking for a waiver for his entire district.
