NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – North Charleston Police Department officials say a man attacked a prostitute after she reportedly refused to continue a sex act after noticing an irregularity with his genitalia.

50-year-old Mikell Todd Nelson was charged with soliciting for prostitution and third-degree assault and battery. 40-year-old Shannon Ann Bonilla was charged with loitering for the purpose of prostitution.

The happy couple met early Tuesday morning and police officers joined them around 1:41 a.m., responding to a report of a man who would not let a woman out of his car. 911 operators were reportedly still on the phone with the woman while the vehicle was traveling to Hanahan.

Police located the car and initiated a traffic stop which is when, according to the police report, the driver of the car, Nelson, told officers that the episode began when he was out looking for a prostitute. And a prostitute he did find on the corner of North Rhett and Sumner Avenues. Investigators say that Bonilla accepted $15 to perform a sex act on Nelson as he was driving.

It seemed like things were going swimmingly. However, according to the incident report, Bonilla stopped mid-act, claiming there was something wrong with Nelson’s genitalia. Understandably, Nelson demanded a refund.

Authorities say the argument escalated into a physical altercation.  Bonilla told police that Nelson hit her several times in the head.

The police report states that she was “heavily intoxicated.”
