MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A 51-year-old Memphis man was arrested Monday after calling 911 to complain that a store clerk over charged him 1 penny for a beer. According to The Commercial Appeal, Danny Smith called emergency services twice and then followed it up with another call to a non-emergency number after being dissatisfied.
The beer in question – a 16-ounce Heineken. When the store clerk refused to hand over the penny, Smith reportedly called 911. When police arrived, they informed Smith that the incident was a civil matter. Apparently that was not the answer he was looking for. After his third call to police, Smith was arrested.
Bail cost him $250.
