There was a software problem with EBT accounts over the weekend. Some users noticed that their cards showed no limits, i.e. unlimited funds. Two Walmart stores in Louisiana decided to honor the cards even though they had no limits. As a result EBT wielding patrons filled dozens of baskets with food, clearing the shelves of everything.

When limits were finally restored a few hours later EBT card holders who were still filling their baskets abandoned them in the store, leaving a huge mess for clerks to clean up. Local station KSLA covered the story:
