SEATTLE – According to the Seattle Police Department, a jogger has been arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault after allegedly choking a man with a dog’s leash. The incident occurred Sunday night in Queen Anne when a jogger was confronted by an escaped pit bull around 8:50 p.m. According to police, the pit bull blocked the jogger’s path and growled at him. The jogger then yelled at the dog and it reportedly ran behind a bush.
But that’s just the beginning of the story. The jogger told police he yelled, “Who owns this dog? Come and get him.” That’s when he saw a man walking down the sidewalk calling for a dog by its name.
The police reports states that the jogger approached the man, asking if the pit bull belonged to him, and he said it didn’t. The jogger was apparently skeptical as the man had a dog leash draped over his shoulders, so he asked him again, but the man stayed true to his story. The jogger smelled at rat and continued to grill the man until he admitted that the dog belonged to his brother and parents.
That’s when things escalated. According to the report, the jogger became verbally abusive: “You’re a lying [expletive]. You know the dog’s name, and you have the dog leash around your neck. [Expletive] you.” The jogger admitted to police that he grabbed the leash from the man’s shoulders, wrapped it around his neck and started choking him, pulling him to the ground.
A witness then entered the melee, breaking up the fight by tackling the jogger, according to the report.
Officers arrived on scene, an arrest was made and I’m not really sure what else to say.
