During the Democratic presidential primaries in 2008, Terry McAuliffe, now the appeared on MSNBC with host Andrea Mitchell and discussed Hillary Clinton image makeover. :
MITCHELL: Terry, there’s been quite an apparent makeover of Hillary Clinton and I’m not talking about the sort of more superficial or cosmetic things. I’m talking about–she’s belting back boiler makers. She was at the speedway today. She’s become blue collar Hillary. Whatever happened to Wellesley and Yale Law School Hillary and is this authentic as she is trying to reach out to these white-blue collar and middle class voters here as she did in Ohio and Pennsylvania?
MCAULIFFE: Well, I’ve known her for a long time. I’ve been fortunate. I’ve been on some vacations with Hillary. I’d love to sit and have a drink with Hillary. She loves to sit and throw’em back. To me this is nothing new. I mean we’ve all heard the story that she and John McCain had a shot contest in the Ukraine or around the world and she actually beat John McCain in a shot contest. You know, she’s a girl from Illinois who likes to throw them down with the rest of us and that’s how she’s always been.
MITCHELL: I can sense a new bumper sticker, ‘Vote for Hillary. She can drink with the boys.’
MCAULIFFE: She’s been with me.
According to the Washington Post, McAuliffe recently told the Northern Virginia Technology Council “he’d be adept at taking people out for drinks and doing whatever it takes to get things done” in order to accomplish his goals as governor.
